Themed Christmas Tree’s

01 Dec

If you want a little  Christmas holiday  inspiration you may just want to stop by the shop. We have been working endlessly at getting the shop ready for the season and our 10  decorated Christmas tree’s are always showstoppers. Though we have many different themes ranging from   elegant victorian flair to  seussical and whimsical …………….. My favorite this year is the  sweet as can be “Elf Tree”  A festive and fun tree with whimsical embellishments, Santa’s little helpers are stuffed in the center and surrounded by tradition red and green ornaments, snowman, elves, packages and ski poles.

Our ” Renaissance Tree” is pure, simple elegance dressed in velvet and glass ornaments in shades of green and teal blue, gold angels and romantic scenes. Placed in an appropriate urn and topped with sheer copper and teal wired ribbon.

Our  “White Dove” tree is shimmering with glitter and wrapped in white and black plaid  as reindeers are nestled in snow…

“Critter Inspired” tree squirrels, owls, birds ribbons, snowflakes, and painted metallic gold pinecones

The unpredictable combination of colorful and shiny ornaments matched with over sized yarn balls and drifting snowflakes complete the look of our  “home crafted” Christmas tree.

If  romance is what you are going for this year  our “Victorian Inspired Tree” is full of love with twinkling lights and golden antique decor hung from the branches while  bands of deep burgandy and black velvet ribbon wrap around the fragrant boughs.

Dunphy/Krowchun The Fairmont Copley

28 Oct

In late August we had the pleasure of doing a wedding at the elegant Fairmont Copley Hotel. When we learned where the wedding was being held we new that it was sure to be a real end of summer bash.

Our beautiful bride had exquisite but rather traditional taste as you can tell by her gorgeous  bridal bouquet that included roses, lisianthus and a variety of soft and flowing greens.

The bridal party bouquets were also lovely with a variety of soft hues of champagnes, whites, soft pinks, ivory’s and greens. The flowers…hydrangeas, roses,  lisianthus and textural greens and a moss green wrap.

The wedding party had a beautiful day to have their  photos taken at  The Boston Public Gardens. I love the dramatic backdrop provided by Mother Nature’s weeping willow tree.

The Grand Ballroom was divided with high and low centerpieces. The elevated centerpieces were arranged on top of  a pilsner vase, the vase was  filled with curly willow and topped off with a sweet combination of dahlia’s, roses, hydrangeas, snapdragon and lisianthus.

All of  the centerpieces were placed on mirrors and surrounded by votive candles for a glowing reflection.  The low centerpieces were designed in a compote  with swirls of curly willow inserted.

The church was St Mary’s in Charlestown. Keep in mind that when your altar arrangement is designed in a tall vase it can serve a double duty by being transferred to the reception site after the ceremony. (As long as it is not prohibited by the church).

Though these pics are from an older wedding  (2011) I thought it would be nice for our brides to be able to see that you can still  take beautiful photos on the beach in October! Oh and how about her amazing traditional cascade bridal bouquet featuring cymbidium orchids, vendella roses and green hypericum berries.

Thanksgiving table a great first impression

20 Oct

As florists we know first hand the importance of adding fresh blooms to your Thanksgiving table, we also know how busy the Holiday season can be so  we like  to to do as much as we possibly can ahead of time in preparation for the big day. Decorative autumn accents can be set out in advance  we have selected a monochromatic palette from the gift shop at Cedar Grove Gardens and put together a few fresh ideas to get you inspired and thinking early.   Be sure to add your fresh blooms a day before the holiday.  To get started choose your favorite autumn colors…

Thanksgiving Table 1

Sleek hurricanes filled with battery operated mystique LED candles. (These can be purchased from Cedar Grove Gardens) Below is the same table scape with the candles lit. The moving flames make them look undeniably realistic as they sit on top of a bed of chestnuts I gathered from outside or you can pick them up at most grocery stores or fruit centers this time of year.     Thanksgiving Table 2

Here is a close up of the  brilliant fall mini frosted glass by roost, fill it with delicious apple cider for a fall treat that screams Thanksgiving.  I love the stems etched into the glass,  another great way to incorporate the outdoor elements on the table.  The extra large wicker serving utensils complete the look.      thanksgiving roost glass   Thanksgiving serving set The natural   decorative acorns strewn about the table are from October Hill. Pictured on my Thanksgiving setting  in white,  if your tablescape is more autumnal we also carry  them in a rustic terra cotta color.  They are constructed of wood, pine cones and seed pods, a true natures bounty.

In case modern straight lines is not your thing, i’ve added a cloth runner down the center of the table and added square wicker chargers   to warm things up a bit I also changed my candles to these lovely Thanksgiving themed  pear shaped candles from Vance Kitira, we carry them in  a variety of fall colors and fragrances.

You can also use them to direct guests to their seats with these pear shaped place card holders…a great option for a place card would be to switch these Vance Kitira tags with paper name tags, punch a hole and tie in place with ribbon or twine.

Vance Kitira candles A simple, festive and inexpensive way to embellish colored napkins, a sprig of wheat or fall leaves for a simple pleasure, you can always add a gourd or acorn so your guest have a little trinket to take home .

Hello fall

16 Oct

written by Janet Harrold

It’s crazy to believe that we are midway through October already! The weather around here has been better than we could have ever imagined, it’s no wonder that  fall is my favorite season. Cold cozy nights and warm blankets,  crunchy leaves, crispy air and  spiced latte’s. I enjoy being able to throw on a scarf a sweater and a great  pair of boots!

October is a fun time to work at Cedar Grove Gardens, there are so many exciting things happening this month. The Harvest Festival  (Sunday October 26th)  brings so much joy to the little ones in our neighborhood as they have a chance to boast their favorite costumes (I wonder how many Disney Princesses  or Olaf costumes we will see this year). Pinata’s filled with candy  and coins are always a delight, but the big attraction is the horse drawn wagon ride through the brilliant fall foliage and fallen leaves over at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Flower crowns have been a symbol of love, fertility and celebration throughout history and around the world, they have been around since ancient times. They have had their ups and downs in popularity over the years but  lately we are seeing more and more brides wearing them. A lush magenta flower crown looks so elegant on our beautiful bride and  especially cute on her flower girl!

Richard’s “New Years Finale” was pure delight as he showed the crowd how to make an affordable all white tablescape, incorporating glassware from your cabinets at home and inexpensive and traditional flowers such as babies breath, carnations and tulips. He dressed up the vessels with a  band of bling and glitz and those expensive looking candles are actually styrofoam balls that he etched out and added tea lights for a wintery effect. Brilliant!

Bob and John demonstrated  how to decorate a column with faux evergreens and pine cones. They also surprised and excited the crowd when they showed them how easy it was to transform their existing containers and window boxes from fall to winter.

Sumptuous food from Gourmet Catering, intoxicating wine selections from Espri Du Vin  and devine demonstrations from our creative and talented staff is the perfect combination  for a truly inspirational evening!

A beautiful day, two beautiful women and of course beautiful flowers made this day a complete dream.

Alyssa’s Bridal Bouquet looked like choices from a soft summer sunset made up of pin cushion protea, godetia, hypericum berries, garden roses and dusty miller.  Meghan’s  sweet surprise to Alyssa was the perfect addition to her delicately wrapped stems. A photo of her grandfather who’s  memory she holds near and dear to her heart.
